A friend received an email with a .pps attachment which she was unable to
open from Live Mail. The error message stated....."This file does not have
a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a
program or, if one is already installed, create and association the default
program control panel".

Now, I set the (new) PC up for her and as she has Office 2010 starter
edition, I downloaded and installed Microsoft's .pps viewer as this was a
requirement

I've confirmed that via the "default programs" in the Control Panel, .pps
files are associated with the PowerPoint Viewer.

What is interesting, is that you can save the attachment to say desktop
(could be anywhere) and click to open, the viewer opens OK (!?!)

Appreciate in understanding the issues and help in getting to work when
click file attachment from with Live mail

Same thing happens to me occasionally using outlook express on XP. I've
given up trying to find the answer and usually just save all attachments to
desktop before even trying to open them.
